Since India is a multi-lingual/multi-religious country, nationalists come in different flavors and shapes.

When it comes to Hindu-nationalists then they mostly glorify Maurya Empire.

But why am I singling out Maurya Empire? Because it’s almost the exact caricature of Akhand Bharat.

There are some maps that would include Myanmar and Indonesia as well, but from what I have seen the majority of Hindu-nationalists use the above map most of the time.

Muslim nationalist dream of either Delhi Sultanate or Mughal empire.

NOTE: Some Muslim nationalists even dream of Umayyad Caliphate. Maybe because that period was the golden age of Islam.

Tamil Nationalists dream of the Chola Empire. It includes most of southern India, East India, Malaysia, and Indonesia. That was one of the golden ages for Tamil language, history, and culture.

This is the actual dream map of Tamil nationalists.

Marathi Nationalist dream of Maratha empire. That’s the period where they captured many parts of India.

Kannada nationalists dream of Vijayanagar Empire most of the time. That was the last time in history when the entire south was united.

Telugu nationalists dream of the Satavahana empire.

Of course, compared to other nationalists they tend to not be loudmouth about it.

Punjabi nationalists dream of sikh empire, which existed before british conquered it.

Lastly, Bengali Nationalists dream of the period when west Bengal and Bangladesh were united. In other words, before 1905 after which Bengal province was partitioned.[1]
